Tips for Tackling Those Taxing Days
Though tax day has finally come and gone, your day-to-day stresses are probably weighing on you more than ever. Have you found yourself playing catch-up?
Are you stuck in a creative rut or a motivational funk?
It happens to all of us. As a small business or nonprofit employee you’re constantly juggling what seems like hundreds of tasks a day. You have responsibilities to uphold, people to support, and a mind that sometimes wears itself out over time.
So how do you refocus your attention, get those creative juices flowing again?
Here are some simple fixes we think may shake things up:
- Get Up & About. Our best ideas tend to come to us when we’re not looking for them. So get out from behind the computer screen and take a walk around the block, grab some coffee or tea, or meet up with a good friend for lunch.
- Get Feedback. Talk to your co-workers and even branch outside of work. Ask your kids, your parents, a neighbor, anyone who might have a new way of looking at something you’re struggling with. It’s OK if you get a simple answer; sometimes they’re the most clarifying.
- Get Crafty. Paint a room in your house, start that scrapbook you never got around to, or even walk around town and snap some pics. Dabbling in a new medium at home may open up a whole new realm of ideas and approaches for your projects at work.
- Get Happy. Set aside a handful of moments throughout the day for you. Listen to a three-song playlist, write a quick journal entry, or read a chapter from the book you still haven’t gotten around to. Use these moments to revitalize your mind and spirit and your work will come out stronger.
So dust off the cobwebs and start anew. Now’s the perfect time to try one or two or even all four of these tips. Tax day is over and spring is in full bloom (hopefully)!
